THIS FALL A TEXAS FAMILY CALLED 'THE GOOD OL' DAYS' THEIR HOME FOR 30 DAYS A family from Austin Texas enjoyed our Nostalgic Guesthouse from Labor Day weekend through October 3, 2009. They visited many attractions in the area while "dad" worked on a project at the Pittsburgh International Airport. They became new friends and took advantage of the small town atmosphere of North Belle Vernon with walks to the grocery store, Pizza shop, Dairy Queen, Bakery, and the Park. They are hoping for a return visit to the area. Also had the pleasure of hosting a group of businessmen & women (another group of TEXANS -- which is rather funny since this "STEELER TERRITORY") who were in town attending nearby conferences for small businesses. They preferred preparing their own 'cuisine' in the Nifty Fifties Kitchen each day. A spectacular "50th Birthday" Bash in RETRO STYLE held in November and rented the home for this special event. Had the honor of hosting a real-life American Hero in the nostalgic guesthouse over Thanksgiving break & Deer Hunting season. He is an active-duty Marine stationed in San Diego, originally from Wisconsin, visiting with former BVA residents who return to the area several times and year --- and most recently have been using "THE GOOD OL" DAYS" as their residence for 9 days in November & December. The Peters Family have called this place HOME twice this year since our Grand Opening in June. Jean is returning in May with several of her girlfriends for a GIRLS RETRO RETREAT 2010. SUMMER GUESTS HAD A BLAST with THE PAST!The Summer Months at THE GOOD OL' DAYS HOUSE have been filled with Overnight Guests in town for Weddings, Family Reunions, a Surprise Overnight Stay/Party for a 60th Birthday, & Suprise Overnight Stay for a 64th Birthday, a Retirement Party, and a long weekend stay for an Olympic/BVA Sports Hall of Famer Inductee and his family. Guests and their Visitors were delighted with all the 'vintage' items and truly had a BLAST with the PAST! Successful Memorial Day "Grand Opening":Our Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and "MEMORIAL DAY GRAND OPENING" was a SUCCESS! An Old-Fashioned Yard Sale was held on Saturday May 23 & we sold lots of antiques, toys, glassware and even the kitchen sink. It was lots of fun and our Bake Sale and Lemonade Stand raised $85 for the Humane Society of Washington County. Our Vintage Fashion Show featured fashions from the 1950s & 60s and was modeled by my 15 year old niece who was just the right 'size' for those slim styles. A military display of photographs, uniforms, & pamphlets to honor my father and 4 of his brothers who were WWII Veterans was located on the dining room area. The Root beer floats, mini-cheeseburgers, chips & dip and nostalgic candy was enjoyed by all those who visited and toured the house during the Grand Opening Activities. Everyone received a complimentary issue of "REMINISCE" magazine. Nostalgic Guesthouse a Hit on February 22,2009 LINK Recent article in the Pittsburgh Tribune on Dec. 26, 2008.
